MAMA Eastern Iowa Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony — October 11, 2026 — Elks Lodge #251, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
A milestone moment for Eastern Iowa rock and roll!
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, The Do's & The Don'ts were inducted into the
MAMA Eastern Iowa Hall of Fame, Class of 2026, as voted by the MAMA Board of Directors.
The ceremony was held at Elks Lodge #251, 801 33rd Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Do's & The Don'ts are one of Iowa's longest-running and most celebrated live rock and roll bands,
performing the greatest hits of the 1950s and 1960s for audiences across Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Marion,
Coralville, Sutliff, Solon, Shueyville, Walford and communities throughout Eastern Iowa. The band is based
in Ely, Iowa, and has been performing since 1959 — more than six decades of live rock and roll
entertainment in Iowa.
Originally known as the Escorts, the band was founded in 1959 by Dick Sherman in Ely, Iowa. In 1997 they
were inducted into the Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Music Association Hall of Fame — one of the first bands ever
honored with that distinction. Their 1966 single "I Wonder If She Loves Me" was released on
the Red Bird record label and remains a fan favorite to this day. They have also released a collection on CD
45 Years Live.
The Do's & The Don'ts perform authentic 1950s and 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop, rockabilly and classic
oldies — songs in the style of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers,
Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Del Shannon, early Beatles, early Rolling Stones and other legends of early
rock and roll. They play clean, family-friendly music for all ages — from grandparents who first
danced to these songs to younger listeners discovering classic rock and roll.
From the acceptance speech: "We couldn't do any of this without you folks… We really appreciate
all the backing you've given us through the years. So we thank you so much for giving us an award."
