A rare look back at the roots of Iowa rock 'n' roll.
This treasured photo of The Escorts was originally taken in 1962
and later reprinted in 1997 to celebrate the group's induction into the
Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.
Pictured left to right: Dick Burns, Roger Booth, Dick Sherman,
with Zelda Sherman in the back row.
Because this was such a milestone moment, the image was uniquely updated to honor the band's
full journey: the bass drum proudly features both "The Escorts" and
"The Do's & Don'ts" names, and Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame signs appear
on the wall behind the group — a wonderful tribute to a band that has been
making music together since 1959.
From their earliest days rocking Eastern Iowa stages as The Escorts in the early 1960's,
to their 1997 Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, to their 2026 MAMA Eastern Iowa
Hall of Fame induction — over six decades of live 50's and 60's rock and roll
and still going strong!
Were you there in 1997 to see them inducted, or do you remember catching
The Escorts back in the early '60s? We'd love to hear your memories!
